Are there any other foods that you have experimented with eliminating to see if they are causing the congestion reaction? Dairy is definitely the most common cause of excess mucus and nasal congestion that too often leads to ear infections. However, it's not the only food that could be causing it. If you haven't experimented with the elimination of at least the top 7 food allergens I would consider a trial period. They are dairy, egg, wheat, soy, citrus, shellfish and nuts (tree and peanut).

Has your chiropractor been popping the ear and draining the fluid in the tube? My chiropractor does a great job of popping the ear and stretching the tube out and then encouraging the draining along the side of the neck.

Hi Dr. Gordon,
My 3 almost 4 year old has her first ear infection. It has not been painful, but the fluid has been in her ears for over 4 months. She was referred to an ENT who suggested a ten day course of strong antibiotics and steroids, or tubes placed and adenoids removed. Instead, I have been taking her to a chiropractor, using garlic/willow drops in her ears, and saline spray in her nose. What concerns me, is that I was told that the fluid is affecting her hearing and could cause long term damage. I really don't like the options that have been given to me....what is your take on long term fluid in the ear and enlarged adenoids? By the way, she is dairy-free!
Thank you in advance,
Eden
